Hikes based on Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) Map #5 & #6 – Appalachian Trail across Maryland and the entire Catoctin Trail. The map includes Cunningham Falls, Gambrill, Gathland, Greenbrier, South Mountain, and Washington Monument State Parks and Catoctin Mountain Park, National Park.

Based on PATC Map #5, this is a moderate 6-mile loop with an 800-foot combined elevation gain going out, and a 300-foot gain coming back. Details to be added.

Saturday, February 08, 2003, 9:AM, Smithsburg MD 21783, Casual Loop Hike, Appalachian Trail, High Rock Rd. to AT, south to MD Route 491 and return with side spur to Devil’s Racecourse Shelter. Leader: LeadersName, PhoneNumber, LeadersEmail. Based on PATC Map #5, this is an easy 5-mile loop that is primarily downhill going out, but has an 800-foot gain coming back. Details to be added.

Coming back, it is a gradual gain of 300-feet ending with a 500-foot downhill. Details to be added.

Based on PATC Map #5, this is an easy 6-mile circuit beginning at the Catoctin Mountain Park Picnic Area, north to Zion Rd. and back along Park trails to 1612 peak and Owens Creek Picnic Area with a 400-foot elevation gain in each direction. Saturday, February 08, 2003, 9:AM, Thurmont MD 21788, Casual Circuit Hike, Catoctin Trail in Catoctin Mountain Park to PATC Olive Green Cabin. Leader: LeadersName, PhoneNumber, LeadersEmail. Based on PATC Map #5, this is a moderate 7-mile loop with a 300-foot gain going out and a 600 gain on the return. Hike begins at the Catoctin Mountain Park Picnic Area, goes south to PATC Olive Green Cabin and returns via a side spur to Hunting Creek Lake picnic area. Details to be added.

Based on PATC Map #5, this is a moderate 7-mile circuit with a 500-foot gain at start with additional 100-300 foot gains after downhills with long downhill to falls and to Visitors Center. Hike begins at the Catoctin Mountain Park Visitors Center, east to Park HQ, north to Chimney Rock, north to Wolf Rock, north to Thurmont Vista, west and south to Hog Rock, south to Cunningham Falls and east back to Visitor’s Center. Based on PATC Map #5, this is a moderate 7-mile circuit with a combined elevation gain of 1,200 feet. It begins in the William Houck Area, east to Catoctin Trail, east to Cat Rock, west to Hunting Creek Lake, around to dam and back to parking. Details to be added.

Based on PATC Map #5, this is a tough 8-mile loop that starts with an 1,100 foot gain to Bobs Hill, a downhill and 200-foot gain to Cats Rock. The return has a downhill and 200-foot gain back to Bobs Hill and the rest is downhill. Details to be added.
